Coconuts for weight loss

One of the most common questions we get from clients is “how do I lose weight?” Eating a little less, and exercising a little is a good rule of thumb but sometimes the body is more complex and requires a more intelligent approach.
Your metabolism is your key indicator of health. A low metabolic rate has been used as an indicator for poor thyroid function by the medical community for many years. Some common by-products of an underactive thyroid include:
* High blood pressure and hardening of the arteries
* Low Basal Metabolic Rate
* Poor salt and mineral retention
* Fluid retention
* Fat retention and obesity
* High adrenalin and cortisol production limiting muscle growth
* Poor sleep (waking between 1 & 2 am)

At Boddy Language we coach our clients on how to use traditional approaches of measuring heart rate, temperature and Achilles tendon reflex relaxation testing for quantifying thyroid health.
If you want to lose weight you must first stimulate your metabolism, otherwise you will be fighting an uphill battle from the start. Reducing calories and relying on cardio will only lower your metabolism, and increase stress hormone production, actually pushing you further down the hill!
One of the most effective ways of stimulating your metabolism and thyroid function are in the following order of priority:
1. Stop consuming polyunsaturated fats (essential fatty acids)
2. Daily consumption of coconut oil and products (Coconoil, Vitacoco,
Coconuts)
3. Use the thirst reflex to manage adequate hydration, don’t overhydrate
4. Eat regularly (every four hours)
5. Drink coffee on a full stomach! Yes this will help your thyroid.
6. High quality sea salt consumption (NOT table salt)

Why Coconoil?
- Inhibits livers formation of fat, allowing its energy to be used rather than stored.
- Anti-microbial, supports your immune system Decreases metabolism, promoting conversion of blood sugar into fat source, leading to obesity
- Exisiting blood sugar immediately available as energy source for body, as opposed to being converted into fat
- Decreased requirement for Adrenals and stress hormone production, leading to better holistic function, including improved sleep quality
- Reduces inflammation and water retention, balancing mineral absorption and promoting greater recovery.
- Increased synthesis of blood cholesterol into steroid hormones, improving immune system, reproductive system, bone mineral density and capacity for
muscle growth.
Why NOT Vegetable/Fish Oils?
- Lowers blood sugar levels increasing demand on adrenals and stress hormones to convert muscle into available energy
- Inflammation of organs and cardiovascular system leading to increase fluid retention and secondary muscle inhibition, causing
postural dysfunction and pain
- Very unstable at moderate to high temperatures. Becomes rancid as oxidises leading to cancer causing free radicals. Spontaneously oxidises in blood leading to hardening of arteries
- Lowers serum cholesterol by inhibiting the livers ability to release its cholesterol, taxing your detox system and
harming the liver. That cholesterol is designed to protect the body!

Once you have your metabolism in check, and you are eating correctly for
your metabolic type, then you can entertain the notion of calorie counting.
Other things that will increase your metabolism that we would also recommend
are:
* Build lean muscle tissue. The more you have, the more calories your burn
every day and muscle tissue is EXTREMELY metabolically active. Strength
training is by far the fastest way to lose fat and keep it off for the
long term. Cardio destroys muscle tissue.
* Get active. Take the stairs, park at the far end of the car park, do the
gardening, it is all cumulative.
* Avoid food intolerances, particularly gluten, as these will inflame your
organs and cause you to retain excess fluid. That has weight to it!
