Then Pilates is for you!
It took Joseph Pilates over 20 years to perfect his methods, training mainly with dancers and athletes. To practice his traditional repertoire without optimum alignment and good core strength allows the exercise to be ineffective and potentially harmful to the body.
Rachel uses the Realistic Pilates© method in small group classes, one-to-one sessions and as the foundation for her personal training. Most people spend a large proportion of their day in a slumped, seated position, which causes pain and weak core muscles. Realistic Pilates© focuses on strengthening and improving the endurance of these same postural muscles. In your Pilates class I will teach you first how to find your optimum postural alignment; you will then progress to learn how to hold this alignment through core strengthening and essential stretching!
Realistic Pilates© differs from a typical Pilates class as we base our classes on two assumptions:
- Most people have a poor mind-body connection
- Most people’s core muscles are not strong enough to resist the global muscles (arms & legs) to take over a movement.
Starting August 2010, Rachel will be running classes at the Bristo Yoga School in Bristo Place and St. Mary's Cathedral (beside John Lewis). Class sizes are kept small, no more than 10-12 per class, in order to ensure you receive personal attention and can therefore achieve maximum progression. There are two types of classes available: a Realistic Pilates© 8-week course (highly recommended) and drop-in Pilates classes.
